Diabetes & Hearing Loss

Did you know...

  • Worldwide, the cases of diabetes has steadily increased over the last 20 years
  • Research has shown that there is a link between diabetes and hearing loss
  • This link may be an under-recognized complication of diabetes
  • Hearing loss is approximately TWICE as common in adults with diabetes
  • Pre-diabetes can also increase the likelihood of having a hearing loss (30% higher risk than those with normal blood-sugar levels)
  • The association between diabetes and hearing loss has shown to be evident in as young as 30-40 years of age
  • Evidence has shown that diabetes can cause damage to the nerves and the blood vessels of the inner ear which can lead to hearing loss
It is highly recommended that all people with Diabetes have their hearing tested!

Hearing loss with diabetes can create unique circumstances when choosing and fitting hearing aids, that is why it is important to see hearing health care professional that is knowledgeable.  The staff at York Hearing Clinic is here to work with each client and their individual needs, tailoring the service and assistive listening device to the client!
